Santa Fe County Sheriff issued the following announcement on April 3.

We present this video in honor of Deputy Sheriff’s Orlando Lopez and Jose Rivera Suarez.
On December 4, 2021, Deputies Rivera Suarez and Lopez responded to a predawn house fire in Chimayo, New Mexico.
Their actions that night on this scene were courageous and selfless acts of valor, all in attempts to save two young girls trapped in their home, which became a burning inferno.
These two deputies and their action are examples of the selfless dedication and commitment to public service that many bring to their service in law enforcement.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office is honored to have such undaunted and resolute individuals serving amongst the ranks of our sworn personnel.
We thank all the women and men of the SFSO who place their lives on the line daily in an effort to protect and serve the public of Santa Fe County.
