County to Conduct CodeRED Emergency Alert Test

Los Alamos County Emergency Management will conduct a CodeRED emergency alert test on Friday, May 13 at 3:00 p.m. The test will be sent to all Los Alamos County residents enrolled in the CodeRED system, and should be received via phone call, text message and/or email, based on the preferences chosen by the resident when enrolled.
The test is in response to an issue identified after the previous message sent on Sunday, May 8. “Several residents didn’t receive Sunday’s message, or only received it via one method despite having signed up for multiple methods;” Los Alamos County Emergency Manager Beverley Simpson explains, “however, we believe the problem is corrected. The test is to confirm the system is working fully.”
According to Simpson, alerts can come from a few different numbers. Two common ones are (855)969-4636 and (866)419-5000. Text messages will also come from a few different numbers. A common one for text messages is (218)350-0131. Simpson recommends residents program the numbers into their phone as “CodeRED” for future reference, as the same number is often used for future alerts.
Residents who are registered for alerts, but do not receive the test message scheduled for Friday are asked to call CodeRED for assistance at (866) 939-0911, Mon – Fri between 7 am and 6 pm EST.
If residents have not yet registered, Simpson asks they do so immediately, to receive the test and learn how the CodeRED system works. Residents can sign up (www.lacnm.com/codered) for Los Alamos County’s CodeRED emergency alerts by texting LOSALAMOS to 99411.
