Fatal crash closes State Road 502, investigation ongoing

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office announced on May 5 that it is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash on New Mexico State Road 502. A 96-year-old woman died from injuries sustained in the incident, and her identity is being withheld until her next of kin are notified.

The Sheriff’s Traffic Homicide Investigation Team is working to determine the cause of the crash. Both eastbound and westbound lanes between County Road 101D and State Road 30 are closed as emergency responders remain at the scene. Motorists have been advised to avoid the area until further notice.

Authorities have provided detour information for drivers affected by the closure. Westbound traffic on State Road 502 should detour via Espanola to State Road 30, while eastbound traffic from Los Alamos can use either State Road 30 or State Road 4 to bypass the closure.
