Friendly Faces Friday: Introducing Gwen Kalavaza – Library Manager
Gwen grew up in Maine but has called New Mexico home since 1993. Gwen is a Certified Public Library Administrator and has a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from Clark University and a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Arizona.
On August 8, Gwen was promoted to Los Alamos County’s Library Manager. She brings with her a wealth of experience, including more than 20 years of experience with the Los Alamos County Public Library System.
Gwen has worked in many different areas, including serving at the White Rock Branch Library, as the Digital Services Librarian, and most recently as the Assistant Library Manager. As the librarian in charge of the old White Rock Branch Library, Gwen developed the plan for a new, larger space. This dream eventually became reality as the new library at Sherwood Blvd. and State Road 4. Gwen’s knowledge of e-books and downloadable audiobooks helped the library become an early adopter of these digital collections.
Gwen is looking forward to working with an outstanding staff and community as the Library Manager and encourages everyone to check out the wide variety of library services Los Alamos County offers by visiting www.losalamoslibrary.org, or stopping by the Mesa Public Library or White Rock Branch Library today!
