Governor Lujan Grisham has authorized four hours of administrative leave for classified and exempt New Mexico state employees, to be used on Friday, April 3, 2026, according to a March 26 memorandum from Dylan K. Lange, Director of the New Mexico State Personnel Office.

The memorandum states that the leave is in recognition of seasonal holidays and expresses the governor’s gratitude for employee service. Employees are instructed to enter their time as administrative leave and include “Seasonal Holiday Leave” in the SHARE timesheet comments. The leave must be taken as a single four-hour block and will not count as worktime for overtime compensation purposes.

Cabinet Secretaries and Agency Heads have discretion to determine if certain employees cannot use this leave on April 3 due to operational needs. For those unable to take the leave on that date, officials may extend the availability of the four hours through Friday, May 1, 2026; otherwise, the opportunity is forfeited.

The memorandum also asks Cabinet Secretaries and Agency Heads to ensure critical services remain available to constituents during this period. If there are impacts on public access or hours at any state building due to this administrative leave, agencies are required to provide proper notice.

Further details about this policy can be found at the official roster page.
