Mayor Michael J. Garcia and City officials announced on April 20 that they will hold a public community meeting for residents living near Franklin E. Miles Park to discuss plans for the upcoming Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration. The event, organized in partnership with the Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe, will cover traffic management, temporary road closures, event logistics, security measures, neighborhood credential passes, and the addition of a Sky Elements drone light show.
The meeting aims to inform local residents about changes related to the annual celebration and provide an opportunity for questions and feedback. City officials and event organizers are expected to address any concerns from those living in the area.
Franklin E. Miles Park has been chosen as the new venue for this year’s celebration due to ongoing construction at Santa Fe Place Mall, which had previously hosted the event. The mayor said he is committed to engaging neighborhood residents before the event by presenting plans developed with the Kiwanis Club designed to minimize disruption, manage traffic flow, and ensure public safety.
This year’s Fourth of July celebration is notable as it marks the semiquincentennial—the 250th anniversary—of American independence. In addition to traditional fireworks, attendees will experience Santa Fe’s first-ever drone light show.
According to city officials and organizers from Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe, Franklin E. Miles Park was selected after evaluating eleven candidate locations because it offers nearly 29 acres of open space along with multiple road access points, strong cell coverage, proximity to thousands of parking spaces, and three free shuttle bus locations.
The community meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 22 at 6:00 p.m., at Nava Elementary School Gymnasium located at 2655 Siringo Rd., Santa Fe.
