The City of Santa Fe announced on April 22 that seasonal water conservation requirements will begin on May 1 and continue through October 31. Residents and businesses are encouraged to start following these measures voluntarily ahead of the official start date to help reduce water use during the outdoor watering season.
The city said outdoor watering will be prohibited between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. from May through October, a measure intended to minimize evaporation during peak sunlight hours. Other requirements include limiting vehicle washing to once per month using automatic shut-off nozzles, prohibiting the use of hoses or power washers for cleaning hard surfaces, and mandating covered pools as well as efficient irrigation systems.
Additional rules target reduced turf water use and require businesses, lodging facilities, and restaurants to adopt specific conservation practices. These efforts aim to improve efficiency and protect Santa Fe’s water resources during months when demand is highest.
Residents seeking more information about the new requirements or wishing to report instances of water waste can contact the Water Conservation Office at 505-955-4225. The city also provides details about available rebates and tips for further conservation efforts through its website.
The announcement reflects ongoing initiatives by local authorities to ensure sustainable management of community resources amid seasonal challenges.
