Santa Fe County is organizing a series of Wildfire Mitigation Community Education Days throughout May and June 2025. This initiative follows the success of a similar event in March, which attracted over a hundred residents interested in learning about wildfire risk reduction.
The county aims to equip residents with essential knowledge and tools to safeguard their homes and communities from potential wildfire threats. The events will include presentations and discussions with experts from the Santa Fe County Fire Department, wildland firefighters, the Office of Emergency Management, and other public safety partners.
Topics covered will include creating defensible space around homes, signing up for emergency alerts and Smart 9-1-1, evacuation planning, sustainable firescaping techniques, and volunteer opportunities within local fire districts.
The upcoming events are scheduled as follows:
– Saturday, May 24 at Santa Fe County Stan Holden Fire Station (Station 70), Edgewood
– Saturday, May 31 at Nambe Community Center
– Saturday, June 7 at Santa Fe County Hondo Fire Station 1
All sessions will run from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The events are free and open to the public. Families are encouraged to attend as activities for children will be available to teach them about fire safety in an engaging manner.
