The Santa Fe County Board of County Commissioners has adopted a resolution in support of the 14th Annual Neighbor to Neighbor Fund Drive, aiming to address ongoing food insecurity issues within the county. The resolution, passed at the board’s August 13, 2025 meeting, was introduced by Commissioners Camilla Bustamante and Hank Hughes.
According to Feeding America, approximately 10.7% of Santa Fe County residents—about 16,000 people—face food insecurity. New Mexico Appleseed reports that this includes one in three children in the area. Many local neighborhoods are considered “food deserts,” where poverty, limited transportation options, and lack of access to healthcare make it harder for residents to obtain nutritious food.
Last year’s Neighbor to Neighbor Fund Drive raised over $482,000. The funds helped The Food Depot provide assistance to nearly 42,000 people across New Mexico. Organizers have set a goal of raising $500,000 this year; every dollar donated is estimated to supply eight meals.
“Through this resolution, the County reaffirms its commitment to building a hunger-free Northern New Mexico.”
Santa Fe County is encouraging both residents and staff members to participate by donating food or money through September 23, 2025. Donations can be made online at https://give.thefooddepot.org/.
