Santa Fe County is providing sandbags and sand to residents in anticipation of heavy rainfall. The initiative aims to help homeowners protect their property from potential flooding.

Empty sandbags can be picked up at two locations: Pojoaque Fire Station 50 at 17919 U.S. Highway 84/285, Santa Fe, and La Cienega Fire Station 60 at 37 Rancho Viejo Blvd. Each household may receive up to 15 sandbags, with an additional 10 available if needed, for a maximum total of 25.

Sand for filling the bags is available at the La Cienega Community Center, located at 136 Camino San Jose (CR 50-A), La Cienega, NM 87507, and across from Tesuque Fire Station 1 on Old Taos Highway, County Road 73. Sand will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

According to Santa Fe County officials, “The use of sandbags is a simple but effective way to prevent or reduce floodwater damage to property.”

Residents are reminded that fire crews may not always be present at distribution sites due to emergency call responsibilities.

For more information, residents can contact Brad Call at the Santa Fe County Office of Emergency Management by email at dcall@santafecountynm.gov or by phone at 505-992-3072.
