The Santa Fe Board of County Commissioners has designated September 17, 2025, as National Citizenship Day in Santa Fe County. The proclamation aims to highlight the significance of naturalization and citizenship pathways in promoting civic participation, economic opportunity, and community unity.
The proclamation also acknowledges the role of immigrants and new citizens in enhancing the cultural and economic landscape of the county. Commissioner Lisa Cacari Stone stated, “Citizenship Day is a celebration of what makes our communities strong, diverse voices, shared responsibility, and a commitment to building a better future together. Santa Fe County is proud to stand with all residents, regardless of citizenship status, in affirming dignity, opportunity, and belonging.”
This move follows Resolution No. 2025-15 adopted on February 11, 2025. The resolution emphasized equal access to services and respect for all residents. By participating in national efforts such as the Cities & Counties for Citizenship (CC4C) initiative, Santa Fe County aligns itself with other local governments that support immigrant and refugee families’ involvement in civic life.
Commissioners Lisa Cacari Stone and Adam F. Johnson sponsored the proclamation. It was approved during the Board’s meeting on September 9, 2025.
