Santa Fe County announced on April 30 that its Regional Emergency Communications Center is experiencing a service outage impacting non-emergency landline telephone systems. The county said that while cellphones can still dial 911, landline service may not be working in some areas and the center’s non-emergency lines are currently out of service.

The outage is significant because it affects how residents reach the emergency communications center for issues that do not require immediate police, fire, or medical response. The phone company is aware of the problem and is working to resolve it. In the meantime, people needing immediate help should continue to call 911 using their cellphones.

For non-emergencies, Santa Fe County provided two backup numbers: 505-692-3952 and 505-699-2937. Officials asked residents to be patient when calling these numbers since staff may be handling multiple calls and lines could be busy. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

According to the official website, Santa Fe County promotes community engagement through public meetings, advisory boards, and access to documents. The county supports its operations through administrative and service facilities across the region according to the official website. Transparent governance, resource stewardship, and providing essential services are key priorities for improving quality of life in Santa Fe County according to the official website.

Santa Fe County operates under a Board of County Commissioners for policy-making functions while a County Manager provides administrative oversight according to the official website. Services extend not only throughout unincorporated areas but also into incorporated municipalities and pueblos within the region according to the official website. Public safety—including emergency communications—remains one of several core services offered by Santa Fe County along with health programs, human services initiatives, public works projects, and community development efforts according to the official website.

Officials reiterated their commitment to keeping residents informed as repairs continue on affected phone systems.
