Santa Fe County is seeking a resident to serve on its Planning Commission for a two-year term starting in March 2026 and ending in March 2028. The position, open to members of the community at large, requires applications to be submitted by Friday, February 6, at 5:00 p.m.

Commission members are expected to attend monthly public hearings held on the third Thursday of each month, as well as special meetings when necessary. They must have access to a computer, email, and internet service in order to review meeting materials and participate remotely via Microsoft Teams if needed.

The Planning Commission’s responsibilities include hearing presentations from applicants about land development projects. County staff also provide reports and recommendations during these meetings. Members of the public can comment on proposals related to land development. The commission then makes decisions or recommendations concerning matters such as variance requests, Conditional Use Permits, and Planned Development Districts for consideration by the Board of County Commissioners.

A full description of the commission’s duties and procedures is available in Table 4-1 of the Sustainable Land Use Development Code.

Interested individuals should submit a letter of interest and resume addressed to Michael Vos at the Santa Fe County Growth Management Department. Submissions can be sent by mail to P.O. Box 276, Santa Fe, New Mexico 87504-0276 or by email at mvos@santafecountynm.gov. Additional information is available by calling (505) 992-9866.

Santa Fe County was established in 1852 as one of the original counties in New Mexico Territory and includes the state capital along with surrounding communities. The county provides services such as law enforcement, health programs, infrastructure maintenance, public safety, human services, public works and community development while focusing on transparent governance and community involvement through public meetings and advisory boards (official website). It operates under a Board of County Commissioners for policy-making with administrative oversight provided by a County Manager.
