The Santa Fe County Fire Department announced on May 1 that it is updating its Community Wildfire Protection Plan and inviting public comment from May 8 to May 24. The plan aims to provide background information, risk assessments, and recommendations for fuel reduction projects, education efforts, wildfire risk reduction strategies, and fire response.

The initiative is intended to help protect lives and reduce property loss due to wildfires by incorporating community feedback along with documents and data from various contributors. Public input is being sought so the final plan reflects local needs and priorities.

A draft of the updated plan will be available for review on the Santa Fe County Wildland Division webpage during the comment period. Comments can be submitted through an online portal starting May 8. In addition, a public survey is open now to gather residents’ views about wildfire risks and desired resources or projects. Survey responses will influence recommendations in the final draft.

A free webinar about the project will take place on May 20 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., offering more information for interested community members.
