The Santa Fe County Community Services Department is seeking volunteers to join its DWI Planning Council. The council, created by Resolution 1997-87, acts as an advisory body to the Santa Fe County Board of County Commissioners on issues related to driving while intoxicated (DWI), underage drinking, alcohol misuse, and substance abuse.

Residents of Santa Fe County with backgrounds in law enforcement, legal, medical, education, substance use treatment, elected office, public health, traffic safety, and media are encouraged to apply. The department also welcomes applications from community members who have personal experience with behavioral health issues. Members appointed to the council will serve a two-year term.

The council’s main role is to develop and promote evidence-based policies aimed at reducing DWI incidents and substance misuse within the county. Its recommendations may include changes to regulations or ordinances at both local and state levels.
