The Santa Fe County Planning Division is seeking volunteers to fill two vacancies on the County Open Lands, Trails and Parks Advisory Committee (COLTPAC). The committee consists of nine residents who advise the Board of County Commissioners on matters related to the protection, stewardship, and use of natural and cultural resources in the county.

Currently, there are openings for a resident from Commission District 1 and an at-large member who must live within Santa Fe County. COLTPAC is responsible for recommending properties for acquisition as open space, trails, and parks; establishing subcommittees to address specific concerns; reviewing and updating selection criteria for property selection; assisting with updates to the county’s Open Space and Trails Plan; advising on funding priorities; and collaborating with county staff on public outreach.

According to the Planning Division, “Ideal candidates will bring experience or interest in areas such as trails planning and construction, hydrology, ecological restoration, agriculture, wildlife, water resources, public administration, or finance. Appointments are subject to confirmation by the Board of County Commissioners based on qualifications and a submitted letter of interest.”

The committee meets quarterly after 5:00 pm with additional meetings scheduled as needed. Appointed members serve three-year terms.

Those interested are asked to submit a resume and letter of interest addressed to Adeline Murthy at the Santa Fe County Planning Division by Wednesday, August 20, 2025. Applications can be sent by mail or email. If applicants do not receive confirmation within one business day they are advised to contact Ms. Murthy directly.
