The Santa Fe County Board of County Commissioners will consider a proposed Joint Powers Agreement with the Town of Edgewood for fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical services, and fire prevention within the portion of Edgewood located in Santa Fe County, according to an April 24 announcement.
This agreement is important as it would formalize the provision of essential public safety services for residents and visitors in the area. The proposal aims to ensure continuous access to fire and emergency medical support by clarifying responsibilities between the county and town governments.
Under the proposed agreement, the Santa Fe County Fire Department would provide round-the-clock fire, rescue, and EMS services. The plan also includes development review, inspections, and enforcement related to fire prevention. In return, Edgewood would make payments to Santa Fe County covering service costs as well as technical consultation, transition assistance, and capital needs. If approved by both parties—and pending approval from the New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration—the agreement would take effect July 1, 2026 or upon state approval if later.
