Santa Fe Public Schools announced on May 8 the launch of a new initiative using collectible trading cards to promote healthier technology habits among students.

The program aims to help students become more mindful about their screen time and encourages balanced digital engagement. The Digital Wellness Trading Card campaign features packs in English and Spanish, distributed through each school site, with cards containing facts, tips, and reminders about healthy technology use.

The collection includes six base cards, two special foil cards, and ten rare exclusive redemption cards. Students who find a redemption card will receive a free bicycle through partnerships with the Husband and Wife Law Team, The Housing Trust, and the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Fe. “This is a creative way to meet students where they are while also encouraging more balance in their day,” said SFPS Superintendent Dr. Christine Griffin. “By blending learning with a little excitement and meaningful incentives, we hope students start to be more intentional about their screen time and find healthy ways to stay active and connected beyond their devices.”

The initiative was developed under the leadership of Board of Education President Kate Noble and Vice President Sarah Boses following the Digital Wellness Resolution introduced in December 2025. It reflects Santa Fe Public Schools’ ongoing commitment to student wellness, responsible technology use, and interactive learning with positive reinforcement.

Card packs will be distributed at all district schools on Tuesday, May 12. Prior to this distribution date, staff, students, and families will receive information explaining the campaign’s purpose.

Santa Fe Public Schools operates as a public school district that includes three National Blue Ribbon Schools; it employs over 72 National Board-Certified staff members; maintains a one-to-one device ratio for Chromebooks or iPads; offers programs such as free meals, summer initiatives, Advanced Placement courses for college credit; partners with diverse stakeholders for student success; supports events focused on bike safety innovation; seeks excellence by meeting educational as well as social-emotional needs—all according to the official website.
