Santa Fe County and the City of Santa Fe are reaching out to individuals interested in starting outdoor businesses. The region’s outdoor recreation economy is on the rise, offering opportunities for those considering ventures such as trail guiding, gear manufacturing, or equipment rental.

The county’s Economic Development team, in collaboration with the City of Santa Fe Office of Economic Development, is organizing two events aimed at connecting current and prospective entrepreneurs with resources and business ideas. These gatherings will take place on June 24 at Buffalo Thunder Resort and on June 26 at Stanley Cyclone Center.

Juan Torres, Santa Fe County Economic Development Manager, highlighted the timing: “With the steady growth of New Mexico’s outdoor economy, now is a great time to turn that dream into a business, especially for those interested in trail, wheel, snow, or water-based recreation.” He emphasized the county and city’s commitment to supporting local entrepreneurs in establishing successful outdoor ventures.

Ricardo Cunha from Hilton Santa Fe Buffalo Thunder expressed support for these initiatives: “We are committed to supporting efforts to grow the outdoor recreation economy in our region.” He noted that their venue will host one of these meet-ups and mentioned an upcoming Outdoor Expo later in June.

These free events welcome anyone passionate about the outdoors and contemplating a business venture. Torres encouraged participation even if plans are not yet fully formed: “It’s a fun and informal way to get to know local government, network with other outdoor enthusiasts, and learn about the support services available.”
