The City of Santa Fe announced on April 13 that it will hold an Arbor Day celebration at Torreon Park on Thursday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to noon.
The event aims to bring together city officials, students, and community members in support of environmental stewardship and the city’s commitment as a Tree City USA community.
Mayor Michael Garcia is scheduled to read an official proclamation during the celebration. He will be joined by city councilors, students from Gonzales Community School, and staff from both the Parks and Open Space Division and the Conservation and Sustainability Division. Attendees will participate in planting trees as part of ongoing efforts to enhance green spaces across Santa Fe.
This year’s activities include new irrigation installed at Torreon Park for supporting tree establishment. A pollinator garden funded by Keep Santa Fe Beautiful’s Clean and Beautiful Grant is also part of the project. Tree seedlings and pollinator seeds will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis during the event. City departments and local partners are expected to provide information booths with resources for attendees.
Parking for the event is limited; organizers encourage participants to park near Sam and Huddleson Streets or Alto Park.
