The City of Santa Fe announced on April 14 that it will host a virtual information session about the New Mexico Community Solar Program on April 20 from 5 to 6 p.m. The program allows residents to access clean and affordable energy without installing solar panels.

The initiative is intended to make renewable energy more accessible for both renters and homeowners in Santa Fe. By subscribing through the city, municipal facilities without on-site solar can benefit, and residents are being connected with available subscriptions.

According to the city, subscribers receive credits on their electricity bills with no upfront costs, credit checks, or early termination fees. Most households are eligible for participation. Households below 80% of the Area Median Income may save between 15% and 20% annually, while other participants could see savings of around five percent.

Eligibility requirements include being a Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) customer. Income-qualified households can access higher savings rates by filling out a simple form; no additional documentation is required.

The upcoming info session will cover topics such as financial savings, income qualifications, consumer protections, and offer an opportunity for questions and answers. Residents interested in attending can RSVP online to learn more about eligibility and how to subscribe.

The Conservation and Sustainability Division of Santa Fe is part of the Coalition of Sustainable Communities New Mexico, which works toward expanding community solar access across the state.
