Special Edition: Events Preview

The Navy's In Town for Veterans Day!

We're about to officially kick off the most festive season of the year, a series of goodwill celebrations both secular and sacred. On Thursday, Veterans Day will feature a show by the Santa Fe Vintage Car Club starting at 1 p.m. on the Plaza. Then at 2 p.m., Santa Fe High ROTC will present the colors and the Navy Band will perform a concert. The Navy Band is here as part of a full slate of Navy Week activities that starts on Monday. Find the schedule here, and help the officers and crew of USS Santa Fe feel as if they're at liberty here in homeport.

Let There Be Lights!

Who can forget the magnificent holiday lights display in the Plaza last year? This year's display promises to be no less spectacular. The lights go on November 26. Santa and Mrs. Claus are expected to arrive by vintage fire truck at 5 p.m. and we expect to flip the switch and light up the plaza at about 6:15 pm. The festivities begin at 4 p.m. with music, food trucks, and don't forget to grab some hot chocolate provided by Girl Scout Troop #10045.

Free Hazardous Waste Drop-off!

Okay, maybe not so festive--but here's a chance to get rid of that toxic junk you've got laying around your own private Superfund site. Tomorrow from 9 to 1 you can drop off hazardous household waste for free at the BuRRT facility. Find the do's and don'ts and other need-to-know details here

Mayor's Note:
Democracy
Is Action

Usually you read about elections as “democracy in action.” But the fact is, when it comes to elections, democracy is action. To all of the people in Santa Fe who participated in any of the different campaigns, who got directly involved in the election by knocking on doors or making phone calls and who took the time to exercise their civic responsibility and their right to vote—many thanks for doing the work of democracy and for making democracy work.

Now we’re at the end of the campaign season and about to enter into the joy the holiday season. Now that the votes have been cast and counted, we all need to come together for the good of our city and for the cause of our community. Campaigns are about choices and pointing out differences; governing is about consensus and solving problems.

That’s where we now turn our attention and our energy. The people of Santa Fe depend on us to serve them—at the end of the day, we all report to them. Let’s take the spirit of the holidays to embrace our work and come together in common cause. It’s an honor and a privilege to serve Santa Fe. We are blessed to live and work here.

Deadline Extended to 11/12: Take the survey and voice your priorities for how to spend $15 Million in ARPA funding!
