As early voting begins, Santa Fe County is informing residents about three general obligation bond questions on the November 5, 2024, ballot. These bonds aim to fund infrastructure projects with minimal impact on property taxes.

"Elections matter for many reasons," stated County Manager Gregory S. Shaffer. "Not least of all because voters get to decide whether to invest in our community through general obligation bonds."

The bond questions are:

1. A $4,900,000 bond for road improvements.

2. A $12,500,000 bond for water and wastewater projects.

3. A $16,125,000 bond for open space, trails, and parks.

Shaffer noted that these bonds would have a negligible effect on property taxes: "The County structures its general obligations bonds to maintain materially stable property tax rates." From 2017 to 2023, the debt rate ranged from 2.123 to 2.129 mills.

If approved, funds will support various projects:

- **County Road Projects**: Improvements at CR 51 Ojo de la Vaca and CR 109 N.

- **Water and Wastewater Projects**: Expansion of the County Water Reclamation Facility and Chupadero Water Line Replacement.

- **Open Space and Trails**: Development of the Santa Fe River Greenway Trail and Santa Fe Rail Trail; Romero Park enhancements; Rio en Medio Open Space restoration.
