Craig Ernst, who has served as the Lead Safety Aide at Milagro Middle School since 2022 and is a retired sergeant of the Santa Fe Police Department, has been honored with the Medal of Valor by the police department. This award recognizes his bravery during a critical incident in 2014 when he and his team captured a dangerous suspect responsible for a serious crime that impacted the Santa Fe community. Ernst's quick and courageous actions not only brought the suspect to justice but also ensured public safety during a high-risk situation.

During his time as a sergeant, Ernst was known for his dedication, composure under pressure, and commitment to public safety. The 2014 incident highlighted these qualities, demonstrating his ability to act decisively in dangerous situations. Now at Milagro Middle School, Ernst continues to use his skills to protect and support the school community. His Medal of Valor is a testament to his service and contributions to Santa Fe.

“Craig Ernst has always demonstrated exceptional courage and an unwavering dedication to keeping our community safe,” said Mario Salbidrez, Executive Director of Safety and Security for Santa Fe Public Schools. “This Medal of Valor is a well-deserved recognition of his heroic actions and continued commitment to the safety and well-being of those around him.”
