Santa Fe County is reaching out to seniors and caregivers to participate in a new survey aimed at shaping the future of senior services. As New Mexico's population ages rapidly, planning for increased demands in healthcare, personal assistance, food access, and housing becomes essential.
The county will launch its Senior Needs Survey on April 8, 2025. This initiative is designed in collaboration with the Center for Applied Research and Analysis (CARA) at the University of New Mexico. The results will guide senior programs and services for the next decade.
Residents aged 50 or older, as well as caregivers aged 18 or older who care for someone over 50 in Santa Fe County, are encouraged to participate. The survey will be accessible from April 8 to April 25 at all Senior Centers in both English and Spanish. It can also be completed online or via paper format.
Several events will coincide with the survey period:
- April 21: Health & Wellness Fair at Santa Fe County Fairgrounds from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
- April 22: Rancho Viejo Senior Services Open House at Rancho Viejo Fire Station from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
- April 23: Tabling & Outreach at various food and grocery establishments.
- April 24: Spring Fling Dance at Santa Fe County Fair Grounds with lunch from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm and dancing featuring live music by Lluvia Negra from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
- April 25: Survey Celebration with Lunch & Ice Cream Social at all participating Senior Centers.
"This survey is a vital tool to help ensure we’re meeting the needs of our seniors now and in the future," said Matilda Byers, Senior Services Program Manager. "By participating, seniors and caregivers will help shape the services, programs, and facilities that best serve our growing senior community."
