Lea County ranked sixth in state for resident earnings in 2017

Lea County ranked sixth among counties in New Mexico by annual earnings per resident, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau in August.

The median income of Lea County residents was an inflation-adjusted $27,286 per year. Lea County had 22,029 households in 2017, with a population of 69,505.

The county with the highest median resident income in the state was Los Alamos County. Los Alamos County's median income was $57,089 per year after adjusting for inflation – $29,803 more than Lea County. It had 7,525 households in 2017 and a population of 18,031.

Mora County had the lowest annual resident income among counties in New Mexico, with a median income of only $12,481 per year. That was $14,805 less than the median income in Lea County at the time. Mora County had 1,513 households in 2017 and a population of 4,605.
