In trying to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office won’t dispatch deputies to take in-person reports for some incidents for the foreseeable future.
In addition, noncontact measures are in place for making public requests for records, according to a press release posted on the department's Facebook page on March 16.
Suspected thefts, burglaries and vandalism with no suspect information plus minor vehicle accidents should be reported by calling the nonemergency dispatch number at 505-428-3720, said release. Animal control officers will handle animal control dispatch calls on a case-by-case basis.
Deputy officers have protective gear for service calls, the sheriff’s office said, and the office is open.
Public information requests may be submitted online at shfrecordsreq@santafecountynm.gov or calling 505-986-2400.
Effective March 20, the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office at 35 Camino Justicia will have new hours of 10 a.m. to noon at the front window in the main lobby for people required to conduct business in person, according to a press release. Until further notice, the office will close at 4 p.m. daily.
