Cost of college went down for resident students at the University of New Mexico-Los Alamos Campus

In-state tuition and fees fell 5.8 percent for 2018-19 at the University of New Mexico-Los Alamos Campus, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

New Mexico residents paid $2,096 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $128 less than the $2,224 charged for 2017-18.

Non-resident students would have paid 166.6 percent more than residents this year, or $5,588. Non-resident tuition and fees were unchanged from $5,588 in 2017-18.

About 96 percent of the school's undergraduate population are New Mexico residents. And about 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 84 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 59 students received grants or scholarships totaling $183,294 and 4 students took out student loans totaling more than $21,783.

Including all undergraduates (871), 412 students used grants or scholarships totaling $2.1 million, and 213 students took out $1.8 million in federal student loans.
