The Community Art Tunnel

Tunnel

Those who have walked through the newly installed underpass for the Canyon Rim Trail, may have noticed some changes the last couple of weeks and definitely some changes this past weekend. Los Alamos County Community Services Department is initiating a new program called The Community Art Tunnel. ⠀

The Community Art Tunnel has been designated a space that is available to the public, to contribute their creativity to the community on a yearly rotating basis. Once a year, before April 15th, the walls will be repainted to provide a fresh canvas for new art to be created. The tunnel provides 79 spaces of varying sizes for to-be artists to select a space, for no cost. To sign up for a space, artists scan the QR code that is provide at the site and complete the short form via their smart phone. For those that do not have a smart phone, please contact CSD@lacnm.us to request a link to the form. The tunnel also provides a set of rules at each end to help guide users of what is allowed...this little guy figured it out - THANKS mom! ⠀

On Friday, May 20th at 2pm, please join the Los Alamos County Community Services Department and the Public Works Department for a joint Bench Dedication and Community Art Tunnel Ribbon Cutting, followed by a community bike ride from the Canyon Rim Underpass to Ashley Pond. The planned route is Canyon Rim Trail Underpass to Knecht St., to Central Ave., to the Justice Center North Parking Lot.
