The New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science is set to showcase a new traveling exhibition that celebrates the conservation legacy of media mogul Ted Turner through the lens of his son, Rhett Turner. The exhibition, titled "Conserving America’s Wildlands: The Vision of Ted Turner," will open on Saturday, May 11, featuring stunning photography capturing the beauty of America's wild places.

NMMNHS Executive Director Dr. Anthony Fiorillo expressed his admiration for Rhett Turner's work, stating, "Rhett Turner’s stunning photography captures some of America’s wildest places and the flora and fauna that inhabit them as they are meant to be perceived."

Rhett, following in his father's footsteps, has become an Emmy Award-winning filmmaker and acclaimed photographer. The exhibition will showcase Rhett's photographs taken on Turner family properties across the United States, depicting landscapes and wildlife in their natural state. From bison herds to blooming plants, the photos aim to highlight the diversity and beauty of America's landscapes.

The exhibition will not only feature Rhett Turner's photography but also include over 35 objects from NMMNHS Research Collections, providing a deeper insight into the natural history of the region. Specimens ranging from fossils dating back millions of years to modern-day wildlife will be on display, emphasizing the importance of conservation and preserving our planet's biodiversity.

"Conserving America’s Wildlands" will run from May 11 through Fall 2024 at the museum's first floor, offering visitors a unique opportunity to appreciate the natural wonders of the country. The exhibition, presented by Thornburg Investment Management, will be included in regular museum admission.

The New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science, known for its commitment to preserving and interpreting the natural heritage of the state, continues to inspire lifelong learning through its collections, research, and educational programs. Established in 1986, the museum remains a vital center for geoscience, bioscience, and space science exploration in the Southwest.
