Santa Fe County Planning Division is seeking a volunteer member for the County Open Lands, Trails and Parks Advisory Committee (COLTPAC). Comprising nine county residents, COLTPAC seeks individuals eager to contribute their expertise and perspectives in conservation and stewardship of natural and cultural resources. One member is being sought to fill the District 1 vacancy on the committee.
The primary responsibility of the committee is to provide recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners concerning:
- Property acquisition for open space, trails, and parks;
- Establishing volunteer subcommittees to address specific concerns for open space, trails, and parks;
- Examining and making changes to property selection criteria when necessary;
- Assisting in updating and reviewing the Open Space and Trails Plan as needed;
- Advising on funding for the Open Space and Trails Program;
- Working with county staff to provide public outreach.
Appointments are subject to confirmation by the Board of County Commissioners based on letters of interest and qualifications in areas such as trails planning and construction, hydrology, restoration, agriculture, wildlife management, water management, stewardship, public administration, or finance. The committee meets quarterly with occasional additional meetings as required. Meetings are typically held after 5:00 p.m., and the selected member will serve a three-year term.
