The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) has put forward a budget proposal of $243.9 million for fiscal year 2026, aimed at addressing essential needs and workforce challenges throughout the state. This proposal marks an increase of $42.8 million over the current budget of $201.1 million.
According to NMDOH Interim Secretary Gina DeBlassie, "Our proposed budget reflects our commitment to providing lifesaving care, addressing staffing challenges, and expanding behavioral health programs and nutrition programs for New Mexicans."
The proposal outlines several key areas for funding:
1. Expansion of behavioral health treatment.
2. Sustaining vital operations.
3. Addressing salary and funding gaps.
4. Combating food insecurity.
5. Additional program funding.
The department plans to present this budget proposal to the Legislative Finance Committee on Monday, Dec. 9, at 2:30 p.m., in room 322 at the State Capitol.
NMDOH is focused on tackling some of New Mexico's most urgent health issues while ensuring continuity of care and developing a workforce capable of meeting state demands.
