Santa Fe, NM - The Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) has confirmed a Public Safety Power Shutoff in the East Mountain Area. The company also warns of potential unplanned power outages in other regions due to inclement weather and changes in system control settings aimed at preventing wildfires.
"Preparedness is the most important thing that residents can do for any emergency," stated Santa Fe County Emergency Management Director Brad Call.
Residents are encouraged to register for Smart 9-1-1, which facilitates sharing personal information with emergency services. "Registering for Smart 9-1-1 is one of the easiest and most important things that County residents can do to prepare for emergencies," explained Roberto Lujan, Director of the Santa Fe Regional Emergency Communications Center. This service allows users to receive emergency alerts and notifications, helping expedite emergency calls and identify those who may need assistance during emergencies.
PNM advises residents to take specific steps to prepare for power outages. These include signing up for PNM outage alerts by texting #REG to 78766, updating contact information on PNM's website or via phone, reporting outages through their website or by texting #OUT to 78766, and checking updates on the PNM Outage Map. Residents are also encouraged to follow power outage preparedness tips from the American Red Cross.
For further guidance during a power outage, resources are available on PNM's website and Ready.gov. In case of emergencies during an outage, residents should call 9-1-1, while non-emergencies can be reported at 505-428-3720.
