Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) has confirmed a power outage in the East Mountain area for public safety reasons and warns of potential unplanned localized outages in other areas. Residents are advised to prepare for possible prolonged power outages due to adverse weather conditions and system control settings, which have been adjusted to prevent wildfires.
"The preparation is the most important thing residents can do in any emergency," said Brad Call, director of emergency management for Santa Fe County.
Residents are encouraged to enroll in Smart 9-1-1. "Enrolling in Smart 9-1-1 is one of the easiest and most important things county residents can do to prepare for emergencies," explained Roberto Luján, director of the Santa Fe Regional Emergency Communications Center. It allows sharing information about oneself, family, pets, medical conditions, and signing up for emergency alerts and notifications.
"Smart 9-1-1 streamlines emergency calls and allows us to identify residents who may need assistance during an emergency for proactive outreach," said Director Luján.
