The U.S. Department of Justice recently awarded $3.8 million to New Mexico courts and county and tribal programs in an effort to combat drugs and crime in the state.

The funding will boost state programs, according to KOB4.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in New Mexico told KOB4 that the funding will support treatment and recovery programs, as well as prevention programs and put funding toward the adult drug court and veterans treatment court programs.

KOB4 reported that more than 130 people die every day across the nation from opioid-related overdoses. The U.S. Justice Department is hoping the funding will help fight addiction, making it a national priority.
