Governor Lujan Grisham commits to 30x30 goal!
In August, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham signed a new Executive Order that commits New Mexico to conserving 30% of its lands and waters by 2030, reflecting the national 30x30 movement. The executive order calls for the creation of a task force that will be responsible for pursuing solutions to New Mexico's most pressing climate change needs, including conserving more of our natural resources. Governor makes three appointments to key conservation committee
Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has made three appointments to a key conservation committee that oversees grant distribution for various conservation projects and is charged with improving access to public lands across New Mexico. The three individuals appointed to the committee are strong proponents for conserving our public resources and have great experience. The Lincoln National Forest is updating its management plan and is now accepting comments from members of the public. These public comments could help determine how the forest and its Wilderness Areas will be managed for the next few decades. We have made it easy to weigh in on the process. Join us for the Gila Wild and Scenic: Rivers of Opportunity Conference in Silver City from Oct. 7-9. The goal of the conference is to re-engage the local community and call for the reintroduction of legislation to protect the Gila River through a Gila Wild and Scenic designation. We will highlight the remarkable natural, cultural, historical, and economic values of the river through panel discussions, film screenings, river filed trips, and more! This year, 18 cards and matching tablas have been added so you can once again play this classic game with a conservation twist. Last year we launched an online hiking guide at hike.nmwild.org! The New Mexico Wild Hiking Guide features over 100 trails in wilderness areas throughout the state. Searches can be narrowed using seven different filters: distance, route type, difficulty, water, natural features, activities and solitude. We encourage you to create a user account for a more immersive experience. Users may upload photos and trail reports from their hikes to improve the accuracy of trail descriptions and the quality of the experience for other users.
