The Santa Fe County Fire Department, Santa Fe County Office of Emergency Management, and the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office have come together to ensure the safety and coordination of support for the annual Good Friday Pilgrimage to the Santuario de Chimayó. This pilgrimage, which draws over 300,000 pilgrims annually, is a significant event for those seeking spiritual renewal and healing.

In preparation for the pilgrimage scheduled for Friday, March 29, 2024, Santa Fe County has collaborated with 29 participating agencies to guarantee public safety along the pilgrimage route. Enhanced traffic patrols will be in effect to manage the potential delays for motorists traveling to Chimayo.

According to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, participants are advised to follow safety measures such as staying on marked pedestrian paths, wearing weather-appropriate clothing, carrying water and snacks, and avoiding walking alone. Additional precautions include wearing visible clothing, carrying a flashlight or glow-stick, and keeping someone informed of your whereabouts.

For pilgrims and visitors, the North Central Regional Transit District (NCRTD) Blue Bus will operate a special express bus route on March 29 to accommodate travel from Espanola to Chimayó. Motorists are also urged to plan for significant delays in the Chimayo area and exercise caution to ensure the safety of pedestrians along the route.

In light of the upcoming pilgrimage, participants and motorists are encouraged to carefully review the recommended route provided by authorities to ensure a safe and smooth experience during the 2024 Good Friday Pilgrimage to the Santuario de Chimayo.
