Milagro Middle School has successfully completed its much-anticipated greenhouse project. This achievement is not just a new learning space, but a testament to community effort and a meaningful tribute.
On April 8, students, staff, and local partners, including experts from Cooking with Kids, collaborated to finish the greenhouse. One of the inside gardens will honor the late Assistant Principal Sue Greig, who passed away in a car accident in October 2024. Greig's impact on the school was significant, known for her dedication to education, with a career that began in Johannesburg, South Africa, teaching Environmental Science, and extended to teaching English in high schools across continents, including the United States and Pakistan.
Greig joined Santa Fe Public Schools in 2020, serving as both Dean of Students and Assistant Principal at Milagro. Her leadership was remembered fondly by Milagro Middle School Principal Georgia Baca: “This greenhouse is a vibrant promise to our Milagro community of growth, learning, and sustainability,” Baca said. “We thought it felt like a fitting homage to pay to Sue, who spent her life nurturing education wherever she went.”
The initiative reflects a commitment to growth and learning, which were Greig's guiding principles during her over 35-year career in education.
