On March 12, 2024, the Santa Fe County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) approved Resolution No. 2024-035, authorizing the free disposal of residential waste for residents at all of its seven convenience centers with a valid solid waste permit on Saturday, September 21, 2024 (8:00 am - 5:00 pm). This event coincides with the free residential solid waste disposal day at the Caja Del Rio Landfill, managed by the Santa Fe Solid Waste Management Agency.
Offering free residential solid waste disposal is expected to reduce illegal dumping, leading to a cleaner and safer Santa Fe County. It will also encourage participation in the Toss No Más cleanup, organized by Keep Santa Fe Beautiful in partnership with the City of Santa Fe's Environmental Services and Parks and Open Spaces divisions.
“Residential solid waste” means "solid waste and recyclable materials generated from a site that contains three or fewer dwelling units." Before depositing wastes at Santa Fe County Convenience Centers/Transfer Stations review prohibited materials as defined in Ordinance No. 2014-010.
