Santa Fe County has announced an increase in the Living Wage for unincorporated areas, effective March 1, 2025. The new rate will be $15.00 per hour, while the Base Wage for tipped workers will rise to $4.50.

The Living Wage Ordinance was first adopted by Santa Fe County in 2014 as Ordinance No. 2014-1. It mandates a Living Wage for certain employees within the county's unincorporated areas and establishes a Base Wage for those who regularly earn more than $30 a month in tips. This Base Wage is set at thirty percent of the Living Wage, with total earnings from wages, tips, commissions, and additional compensation required to meet or exceed the Living Wage.

Adjustments to both the Living and Base Wages occur annually on March 1st based on changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers in the Western Region. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a CPI increase of 2.76% for 2024, prompting this year's wage adjustments.
