Nina Otero Community School and Aspen Community School recently hosted STEAM Night events on February 6th, drawing students, families, and local organizations for an evening focused on discovery and creativity.
At Nina Otero, attendees participated in interactive STEAM activities suitable for all ages. Families moved through various engaging stations while enjoying snacks, emphasizing the value of interdisciplinary education in a welcoming environment. The event also featured the school's science fair projects, concluding with an awards ceremony to honor student innovation and effort.
The evening was enhanced by contributions from community partners such as the Santa Fe Alliance for Science, Santa Fe Public Library, Capital High School’s Science Honor Society and Medical Pathway Department, Santa Fe Children's Museum, Cooking with Kids, Santa Fe Botanical Gardens, Randall Davey Audubon Center, NM Office of Archaeological Studies, Santa Fe Watershed Association, Santa Fe Raptor Center, and ST Math. These collaborations provided insights into local educational resources.
Simultaneously at Aspen Community School across town, families explored student projects and engaged in STEM and coding activities. A special art experience was sponsored by the Museum of International Folk Art. Guests enjoyed healthy smoothies along with dumplings from Lotus Dumpling House provided by Aspen’s PTO.
Both events highlighted hands-on learning's impact and community engagement's role in creating memorable experiences that inspire students while strengthening connections within Santa Fe's school communities.
"STEAM Night trae aprendizaje práctico y participación comunitaria a las escuelas de Santa Fe," read a summary of the events in Spanish.
The collaborative efforts underscored how practical learning opportunities can enhance educational experiences across disciplines while fostering stronger community ties.
