Marion Markham, a teacher at El Dorado Community School, has been named a state-level finalist for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) in the grades 7-12 science teachers category. The PAEMST is considered the highest honor given by the U.S. Government to K-12 STEM educators. Each year, up to 110 educators from across the nation are recognized by the White House for their dedication and impact in education.
John Sais, Principal of El Dorado Community School, expressed pride in Markham's achievement: "Marion's commitment to her students and her innovative approach to science education make her an exceptional teacher. We are incredibly proud of her achievement and the positive influence she has on our school community."
Dr. Veronica C. Garcia, acting Superintendent of Santa Fe Public Schools, emphasized the significance of this recognition: "This recognition highlights Marion's dedication to providing engaging and rigorous science education for her students. She exemplifies the high standards we strive for in our district."
Vanessa Romero, Deputy Superintendent for Teaching and Learning, also praised Markham's work: "Marion's achievement is a testament to her hard work and passion for science education. Her students are fortunate to have such a remarkable educator leading the way."
Those selected as Presidential Awardees will be notified by the White House and honored at special ceremonies in Washington, D.C., where they will receive $10,000 from the National Science Foundation.
