Santa Fe County, NM - In anticipation of the prom and graduation season, the Santa Fe County Youth Services Division and Pojoaque Valley High School have introduced a series of DWI prevention initiatives. These efforts aim to deliver an important message to the community: refrain from underage drinking and support the youth.

Spanning from April 21 to May 3, 2025, the campaign will underscore the significance of keeping alcohol away from minors to prevent the severe ramifications of drinking and driving.

The initial event is the Sticker Shock Underage Drinking Campaign, starting April 21, in collaboration with alcohol retailers in Pojoaque. Pojoaque Valley High School students will apply stickers to alcohol products, serving as reminders that providing alcohol to minors is illegal and unsafe. The stickers engage parents and community members with the message: "Don’t be the reason. Don’t buy or give alcohol to minors."

On April 29, a DWI Prevention Crash Simulation will be held at the school, featuring multiple law enforcement and emergency response entities such as the Santa Fe County Fire Department, Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, and City of Santa Fe Police Department, among others. Attendees will observe a reenactment of a crash scene resulting from impaired driving. First responders will offer narratives reflecting the impact of DWI. Additionally, The Mountain Center will provide behavioral health support.

"As we approach prom and graduation season, it's crucial to remember DWI is 100% preventable," stated Chanelle Delgado, Youth Services Administrative Program Manager. "It's not just about adhering to the law; it's about protecting lives and safeguarding the future of our youth. By making the conscious choice not to provide alcohol to minors, we can help prevent tragedies that have lifelong consequences. Let's work together to create an environment prioritizing safety and responsibility, ensuring our celebrations are joyous and free from the heartbreak of loss."

The initiative calls on the Santa Fe County community to promote youth protection, increase awareness, and ensure a secure celebratory season.
