Senators Heinrich and Lujan Have Reintroduced Gila Wild and Scenic Legislation!
Senators Martin Heinrich and Ben Ray Luján have reintroduced legislation to protect the Gila River under the federal Wild and Scenic Rivers Act! The M.H. Dutch Salmon Greater Gila Wild and Scenic River Act would designate 446 miles of the Gila and San Francisco Rivers as Wild and Scenic, permanently protecting their free-flowing values.
The legislation was first introduced in May 2020 by Heinrich and former Senator Tom Udall. The bill took an important step toward passage when it was heard by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Subcommittee on Public Lands, Forests, and Mining, but ultimately did not make it any further.
Today's reintroduction is a promise kept by Senators Heinrich and Luján. Please send them a message to say thank you!
