White Rock Senior Centers

Facemask

The Los Alamos Retired and Senior Organization announces that starting Tuesday, May 31st, masks are required to enter the Los Alamos or White Rock senior centers. FREE masks and hand sanitizer are available at both locations, compliments of the Aging and Long-Term Services Department and the Area Agency on Aging. Indoor dining will also be placed on hold for the week, but meals are available in their drive-thru format.

“I’m deeply sorry for the change of status,” said Bernadette Lauritzen, the LARSO Executive Director. “Many factors went into this, including rising Los Alamos numbers, four positive Covid cases in the senior center, the rise in cases after many end of the year events/parties, and a holiday weekend. We will look at the date on Friday and determine if the decision, must be extended.”

Lauritzen reminds people that simply posting their Covid positive status on Facebook, leaves many senior citizens in the dark about possible exposure. Many local seniors do not utilize technology or read their news in an online format. Lauritzen suggests if you believe you could have infected a senior, it is best to call them personally to make them aware. She also asks for grace for those senior volunteers and staff members, that must just follow the rules.
