Two public health offices in Las Cruces are offering flu and COVID-19 vaccinations at no cost while supplies last. The vaccinations are available at the Las Cruces Public Health Office, located at 1170 North Solano Ave., and the East Mesa Public Health Office, at 5520 Holman Road. Availability varies for adults and children.
Appointments are preferred, and individuals can schedule their vaccinations through the NMDOH Vaccine Portal. Walk-in appointments are also available on specific days: Mondays from 1-3 p.m. and Fridays from 9-11 a.m. at the Solano Avenue location, and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a lunch break from Noon to 1 p.m., at the East Mesa office.
Dr. Miranda Durham, Chief Medical Officer of NMDOH, stated, “Flu and COVID-19 vaccines are updated every year to offer us the best protection against these common viruses.” She emphasized that getting vaccinated each season helps reduce illness, absenteeism from work or school, and serious health issues.
COVID-19 vaccinations are recommended throughout the year. As of late October, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advised two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine six months apart for individuals aged 65 years and older and those who are moderately or severely immunocompromised.
The NMDOH advises annual flu vaccinations for everyone aged six months and older during flu season, which runs from October to May. This is particularly important for high-risk groups.
Insured adults should seek flu and COVID vaccines at local pharmacies or providers using the provider locator map available online or by calling 1-833-SWNURSE for assistance.
