Carlos Gilbert Elementary School made history on Saturday, September 7, by winning first place for Best School Entry at the Desfile de Los Niños/Children’s Pet Parade. This long-running Santa Fe tradition, now over 100 years old, is a beloved part of the Santa Fe Fiesta, where children and their four-legged, costumed companions fill the streets with color and joy.

The school's float, themed “reading bugs,” captured the hearts of both judges and spectators alike. Students, families, and staff worked together to create a memorable experience, handing out books and candy to onlookers as they paraded through the vibrant streets of Downtown Santa Fe.

“We are so proud of our students and the entire Carlos Gilbert community for their creativity and hard work," said Principal Kim Pietrocci. "Our ‘reading bugs’ theme truly brought to life the joy of learning, and being part of such a historic event made this win even more special.”

The Carlos Gilbert Elementary School float showcased creativity and emphasized the importance of literacy and community engagement. Decked out in bug-themed costumes, the students celebrated reading while their pets and the float itself added extra charm to the parade. The school’s participation in the Desfile de Los Niños was more than just a win for them; it was a moment of pride for everyone involved. By blending fun, education, and community spirit, they played a part in the ongoing history of one of Santa Fe’s most cherished events.

La Escuela Primaria Carlos Gilbert hizo historia el sábado 7 de septiembre al ganar el primer lugar como Mejor Entrada Escolar en el Desfile de Los Niños/Children’s Pet Parade. Esta antigua tradición de Santa Fe, que ahora tiene más de 100 años, es una parte querida de la Fiesta de Santa Fe, donde los niños y sus compañeros disfrazados de cuatro patas llenan las calles de color y alegría.

La carroza de la escuela, con el tema “bichos de lectura”, capturó los corazones tanto de los jueces como de los espectadores. Los estudiantes, las familias y el personal trabajaron juntos para crear una experiencia memorable, entregando libros y dulces a los espectadores mientras desfilaban por las vibrantes calles del centro de Santa Fe.

"Estamos muy orgullosos de nuestros estudiantes y de toda la comunidad de Carlos Gilbert por su creatividad y arduo trabajo", dijo la directora Kim Pietrocci.
