The Santa Fe Public Schools (SFPS) Parent Academy is expanding its educational mission by providing resources and learning opportunities for parents and caregivers. Raquel Plaza, Deputy Chief of Equity and Inclusion, emphasized the program's collaborative approach: “Education is a family affair. Parents and families are our partners as we work toward shared goals, supporting our children’s academic and personal success.”

Over the past three years, under Plaza's leadership, Parent Academy has grown significantly in both course offerings and community engagement. This growth indicates strong community interest in educational programs such as basic computer skills, English as a Second Language, GED preparation, and support services for Newcomer Families.

The diverse classes offered by Parent Academy are designed to meet the needs and requests of parents. This initiative is supported through Federal Title I funding and grants from the City of Santa Fe and the Youth and Family Services Division's Human Services Committee Small Grant Fund. Long-standing partnerships with Santa Fe Community College, Literacy Volunteers of Santa Fe, and various community providers are crucial in maintaining Parent Academy as a valuable resource.

SFPS announced new classes beginning in January 2025, including Spanish as a Second Language and Intermediate Computer Skills. Updates will be available at www.sfps.info/page/parent-academy.
