The Santa Fe County Fire Department (SFCFD) is reaching out to the community this holiday season, encouraging residents to volunteer as firefighters or support responders. The department aims to enhance safety against wildfires and man-made disasters by increasing its volunteer ranks to 200 members by 2028.

The SFCFD emphasizes that volunteering offers a variety of roles beyond firefighting, including incident rehabilitation, air tank filling, driving water tenders, basic radio use, traffic control, medical assistance, office and administrative support, emergency vehicle inspections, and special events operation support.

"Santa Fe County Fire is a combination department," the statement reads. "This partnership allows us to meet the fire and medical emergency needs of our community."

For those interested in contributing their time and skills to protect the community, Battalion Chief Salvatore Caputo can be contacted at 505-992-3087 or scaputo@santafecountynm.gov for more information on becoming a volunteer.

"When your neighbors are trained, together, we can make a difference at home!" the department asserts.
