Santa Fe County is inviting residents to join the NAACP Santa Fe and the New Mexico MLK Jr. State Commission in celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy at their annual event. The celebration will take place on January 20, 2025, from 12 pm to 1 pm at the New Mexico State Capitol Rotunda.

The event will focus on unity and community service, featuring a Traditional Call of the Drum and a performance of the Negro National Anthem by Malcom Morgan-Petty. Keynote remarks will be delivered by Sandra Session-Robertson, Vice President of Development and Donor Relations at the Santa Fe Community Foundation.

Proclamations from both the Governor's Office and the City of Santa Fe will be presented with comments from Little V. West, Chair of the NM MLK Jr. Commission, and Mayor Alan Webber.

Recognition of New Mexico elected officials will be led by Simesha McEachern, President of the Santa Fe NAACP Branch. Additionally, a Community Service Award will be given to Santa Fe Dreamers for their support of students in the community, with remarks by Executive Director Miles Tokunow.

The event will conclude with an audience-wide rendition of "We Shall Overcome," led by Malcom Morgan-Petty.
